The Flowtron BK-15D Electronic Insect Killer is hands down the best electronic mosquito repellent on the market today and it’s doesn’t even use modern technology! It basically works by attracting mosquitoes away from you and then KILLING them. It’s so much old school out door pest repelling fun that we just have to review it!
Flowtron General Thoughts
This oldie but goodie actually looks larger than you think. Its horizontal outer grid is made of durable plastic that can handle quite a bit of ultraviolet beating. It’s also made that way to avoid birds, pets, or even children from getting zapped by the vertical charge grid.
We also like how the bottom part of the device is relatively open (as compared to other zappers) which prevents clogs. If it does clog, it’s easier to clean. In addition to that, they also incorporated a patented “non-clogging killing grid” to prevent short-circuits caused by flare-ups from mutilated insect parts.
We know of people who are using these lantern lookalikes for about 3 to 5 years already and they work like they were bought yesterday…or even better! You see, some say that the unit does clog but when the metal coating fades the clogging goes away too. And I thought only wine gets better with age.

Mosquito Massacre
It works by using ultraviolet light to attract and then kill mosquitoes, flies, moths, and any other creepy crawly that we love to hate. And since the killing method is chemical-free, you get a repellent that’s safe for your family.
Several reviews say that Flowtron doesn’t work; one even has the nerve to say that it only attracts more insect. Turns out that he’s been hanging his Flowtron near his chair – of course insects will swarm next to him!
The lesson is if you want to maximize this repeller’s potential, you have to use it right. Place it 20 to 25 feet away from your balcony and watch how swarms of insects get lured to their imminent doom. You should also remember to hang it far from walls and about 6 feet off the ground so the repeller’s surface area is maximized. Lastly, use it during peak hours which is usually around 7PM until about 7AM – this is the time where mosquitoes are partying and getting blood drunk.
A lot of people also recommend using octenol (a mosquito attractant) for maximum insect-killing action. The unit itself doesn’t need it but it does help increase effectiveness.
