Gardeneer Natural Enemy Scarecrow Review

Owls are actually the most prolific birds of prey in the animal kingdom. Hawks and eagles may get the headlines, but owls get their prey. As such, they have lots of natural enemies which means adding the Owl Natural Enemy Scarecrow to your garden is almost guaranteed to have an impact on your pest population.

But the Gardeneer by Dalen is so much more than a boring, lifeless scarecrow. This guy is a SOL-R Action Owl, hand painted, and poised to deliver life like action.

That’s right, this scarecrow is solar powered, so make sure your placement is an area that gets enough sunlight to charge the batteries. As a backup, the Owl scarecrow can be powered by wind energy. Depending on how much light it receives during the day, the scarecrow will continue to rotate throughout the night, which further helps protect your garden.

Natural Enemy ScarecrowThe motor turns the head in a jerking motion, akin to an owl which is snapping to attention, ready to pounce. This rotation of the head produces a slight clicking noise, and the two features make it seem more realistic to any pest wanting to get a closer look.

In addition to being solar powered, the Gardeneer is made mostly (80%), of recycled materials, and each scarecrow is built to be sturdy and long lasting.

This product is moderately priced but due to its sturdy construction and unique approach to repelling pests, it’s a decent value on top of being lots of fun. For best results the manufacturer does recommend that you rotate your scarecrow placement from time to time to keep pests on their toes.

People who have used the Gardeneer report that the number of birds and squirrels in the surrounding area has dramatically dropped. The fact that it is easy to set up and acts as a deterrent from the start gives it a huge advantage over many other pest repellents.

Gardeneer Natural Enemy Scarecrow Conclusion

For something different, I’ll wrap a personal story into the conclusion for this product. When I was a child my dad worked in at a small tax firm and near his desk was a glass side door to the office. It wasn’t well trafficked and one summer a flock of birds took to playing right outside the door. Ever the practical thinker, my dad took a stately brass eagle desk ornament and placed it at the glass door peering out. Never again did he have issues with the noisy birds.

My point is that a simple product like the Gardeneer owl scarecrow can have an outsized impact in repelling your garden pest. Plus, it’s attractive and location appropriate in ways that other bird repellers aren’t. If I had issues with birds in my yard or garden, I’d tip the hat to my old man and pick up a product just like this one.
